Position Overview

The SVP of IT, Enterprise Application Services provides strategic direction and management of Beacon Health Options IT Application Development and Maintenance department. This newly created role provides technology vision, leadership, and day-to-day management in the design, implementation, maintenance, support and operations of information technology application systems in conjunction with the EVP & CIO.

At an enterprise level, Beacon Health Options seeks an experienced, energetic, engaging and visionary leader who wants to become part of an exciting, vibrant community of healthcare technology professionals supporting the creation and configuration of software solutions that will engage, impact and make our internal and external customers productive.

This IT leadership position reports to the EVP & CIO, is a member of the IT leadership team and serves as a key role in company senior leadership team (SLT), working closely with the senior leaders, regional and corporate communities. He/she is an advocate for the enterprise application development and configuration requirements and is responsible for the development, configuration and delivery of a comprehensive software development strategy, architecture and solutions.

The complexity of this position requires a leadership approach that is engaging, imaginative, and collaborative, with a sophisticated ability to develop scalable, supportable, maintainable, robust, and high-performing solutions that meet our customer’s requirements.  This will require the implementation of Agile our Enterprise Application Development Methodology that integrates technology and business to quickly develop and deploy business solutions. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead multiple scrum teams of developers, business analysts, product owners, quality assurance and scrum masters that develop, configure, support and implement our enterprise application architecture.
  • Lead by example, care for your teams and establish credibility with the quality of you and your team's technical execution. Ensures that technical projects remain on schedule and within budget and ensures business value propositions are realized.
  • Oversees the Agile methodology and implementation, project scheduling, scope and quality of deliverables and resource management
  • Strong management and communications of IT’s capacity vs the projects and requests of the business (Demand)
  • Formulates strong relationships and strategy with IT peers serving as a high-level subject matter expert (SME) in software configuration and development. Communicates software release schedules across the organization and maintains open lines of communications to ensure that projects are completed in a timely and effective manner. Works with other departments to evaluate and develop the most effective software development services.
  • Promote collaborative, empowered working environments across the company, removing barriers and realizing possibilities.
  • Define, adhere to and train the team on coding standards and guidelines.  Utilize standardized tools, processes and adhere to the Agile Methodology.
  • Ability to support the continuous growth of new business, possible acquisitions and external partnerships.
  • Acts as the escalation point for development, release, testing and support of Beacon Health Options present and future platforms.
  • Relays aspects of the software development life cycle in a way that is understandable to senior leadership team, clients and customers; seeking to simplify the complex.  Stays abreast of contemporary development opportunities in the market and issues and regulatory changes affecting healthcare technology at the state and national level. Engages in professional development to maintain continual growth in professional skills and knowledge essential to the position.
  • Handles and oversees administrative matters for the Enterprise Application Service organization. This including overseeing and directing the preparation of the organization’s budgets, instituting and directing operational planning and forecasting, identifying primary division goals and key measurements, and overseeing the development of internal controls for major programs. This position works closely with the Finance group to manage the team and operations within budget. Acts to implement cost saving strategies where available.
  • Provides leadership and execution to manage scalable and cost effective application development, configuration and support capacity from outside vendors.
  • Ability to approach IT from a broad perspective interacting with all departments and aspects of IT recognizing ways Enterprise Application Services can assist when and where needed. Spearheads special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Provides subject matter expertise and technology to the development teams.
  • Act as the “Deputy CIO” on certain key projects, transformation initiatives or IT Leadership gaps for both our internal and external customers.  Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Works with enterprise architecture on the development of standards for product development.  Work with enterprise infrastructure services to ensure we have effective and efficient application software executing on our on-prem or cloud base infrastructure.  Works with security to ensure our application security standards.
  • Recruits and retains a world-class team of technologists that align with our technical stack and Agile methodology.
  • Works closely with technology leaders, technical experts, operations leaders across enterprise on a wide variety of application development issues that require an in-depth understanding of the technology environment.

Professional Experience/Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, applied math; advanced degree preferred
  • 15+ years of software development (engineer) experience; 10+ years of senior leadership experience, preferable working with technologies within the Healthcare Industry, however solid experience in today’s top software solutions (Oracle, Workday, Salesforce, SAP, etc….) is needed as well.
  • Experience overseeing and managing complex, organizationally matrix based programs and schedules
  • Excellent interpersonal/customer relations skills; clear and concise verbal and written communicator, great listener, with the ability to effectively navigate and mediate conflict and foster honest dialog
  • Be able to work independently; anticipating and resolving problems
  • Self-motivated and pro-active with demonstrated creative and critical thinking capabilities
  • Strong leadership and excellent communication skills, with experience managing, motivating and mentoring teams/individuals
  • Ability to come up to speed on technology quickly, can articulate benefits and business value
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team to develop strategic initiative, tools, etc.
  • Ability to align key stakeholders toward a common goal, drive results, and facilitate change


  • Moderate (25-50%) overnight travel and travel spanning 3 to 4 days to client and company facilities
