Job Description


We are currently seeking a dynamic Vice President of Product Development to join our team at our office in Boston, MA.  The VP of Product Development will be responsible for developing and launching a standard product development methodology and overseeing the end-to-end product development process, from initial product ideation, through business case development, detailed design, operationalization, and outcomes measurement.  Working with the Market Presidents, the VP of Product Development will also be responsible for ensuring that client launches of each product maintain a level of fidelity to the standard model and are profitable for Beacon.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with corporate strategy, regional market leadership and sales teams to understand market needs
  • Identify and train on a product design and development methodology for Beacon Health Options, including product testing process and measurement
  • Lead cross-functional implementation process to ensure fidelity to the product design
  • Directly manage the product design and development team to include interviewing, hiring, mentorship and development, disciplinary actions, writing appraisals and setting goals, and contributing to salary decisions
  • Supports department head in effective budget administration, planning and day-to-day decision making and administration of expenses covered in the departmental budget including salary and staffing, departmental activities, strategic initiatives, purchases and planning

Product P+Ls will be developed as Beacon’s capabilities mature.  Each product will be led by a corporate Product Manager, which will report to the VP of Product Development. 

Position Requirements:

Education: Undergraduate degree, MBA or other relevant Master’s level degree strongly preferred.

Licensure: N/A

Relevant Work Experience:  A minimum of 10 years of work experience, with 5+ years of experience in a health care field. 3-5 years of experience in product strategy, including developing new healthcare products and/ or clinical programs. Behavioral health experience is a plus, but not mandatory.  The candidate should should have demonstrated success in developing, implementing, and/or running healthcare products or clinical programs. 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strategic and Tactical-Must be able to understand Beacon’s market strategy in order to develop a strong value proposition for the product.
  • Experience leading and coordinating multi-departmental teams 
  • Effective Oral and written communication skills
  • Analytical mind and intellectual curiosity  in order to develop and evaluate different options for product design from clinical, operational, and financial perspectives. 
  • Hands-on approach to managing the end-to-end process.
  • The candidate needs to have the ability to learn quickly from other subject matter experts, grasp key concepts and apply them to product design and implementation.
