About The Position:

The VP, Data Analytics and Reporting, will own establishing and executing a vision for enabling an information and analytics solutions to Beacon’s key business stakeholders, including, Business Units, clients, key functional stakeholders and internal departments.  Role is responsible for executing this vision through the design and oversight of an enterprise-wide data / information strategy, the development, deployment, and adoption of business intelligence and reporting tools, where possible, a shared services strategy and the delivery of reporting and analytical solutions to key stakeholders.  The primary responsibility will be providing reporting and analytic support to address business strategies and product development that provide for a solid business intelligence and analytics solutions environment and infrastructure. 

Position Responsibilities:

Develop, plan and manage the BIACOE activities:

  • Work closely with business leaders to understand needs, opportunities, and priorities.
  • Responsible for re-shaping relationships with Beacon's internal customers, as well as, driving solutions which enable Beacon to become a true 'information aware' operation. 
  • Responsible for creating an increased understanding of the needs of key business stakeholders as they relate to information reporting, analysis, mining, visualization, dashboards and distribution, and then using the resources of the BI/Analytics team to deliver solutions.
  • Work with business and operational unit leaders to define, develop and document consistent data standards and definitions for reporting & analysis purposes create buy-in to the data definitions that support the analytic models developed to support end user reporting.
  • Lead the effort to analyze business needs and data, subsequently establishing, documenting and implementing a consistent analysis methodology and use of resources across the company. Ensuring sound requirements definition, specification and scope definition processes are upheld through reporting & analysis processes.
  • Work with business/operational unit leaders to ensure the generation of high quality analysis and reports for business viability and compliance with our clients, state agencies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Evaluate options to address business capability needs.
  • Lead and drive the investigation and planning for new projects.
  • Ensure there is good communication and common alignment for the change agenda.

Manage the Delivery of Projects:

  • Accountable to lead BI project activities, communicate status, issues and risk, resolving problems, keeping projects on track and aligned with business objectives if project scope needs to change. 
  • Directly manage BI team and application work for all BI/Analytics projects.
  • Ensure effective coordination occurs with the teams that provide shared services.
  • Coordinate closely with the business project teams.

Develop a strong BI/Analytics team:

  • Attract and retain a talented, capable team of managers, developers and analysts.
  • Build strategic skills within the team.
  • Coach, counsel and mentor associates on their performance.
  • Plan and manage team capacity through effective resource planning and tracking.
  • Lead and manage the enterprise ware house team by providing mentorship, developmental opportunities, and leadership and performance feedback.  Assure that the skills are being appropriately applied to the type of requests and projects

Manage the Production Systems:

  • Manage the data warehouse function assuring the key operational database administration functions are completed on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.  Analyze existing Warehouse structure to identify performance and data enhancements.  Continue to build data marts that support the needs of the business users.
  • Lead and manage existing reporting functionality & business processes, assess unmet and new business needs and solutions, develop new report requirements and implement a strategy for improving enhancing the report production system for accountability and strategy.
  • Oversee the development and documentation of formalized report generation processes, standards, and scheduling procedures and promoting these throughout the organization
  • Ensure the company has reliable and available production BI/Analytics systems.
  • Provide team coverage for daily production support.
  • Apply solid incident management and problem management processes.

Provide Effective Customer Service:

Ensure there is an effective level of regular communications between the teams.

Provide responsive support for needs and issues.

Build business customer confidence.

  • Ensure training to internal customers to maximize use of standardized reporting and analytic tools and to support standards and to facilitate better user-generated reporting & analysis.

Position Requirements:

  • Education:  Bachelor’s degree in information systems & technology. An advanced degree is preferred
  • Relevant Work Experience: 
  • This position also requires the leadership and communication skills to champion and rally the organization around the opportunity of BI, including the ability to educate on the value of BI. 
  • Demonstrated ability to define and execute on a Business Intelligence (BI) shared services vision for the enterprise and ability to architect as a shared service
  • Ability to coordinate and communicate across all business units/departments and strong analysis, documentation, technical, communication and leadership skills. 
  • Keen understanding of Key Performance Measures and Indicators that drive company measurement, reporting and analytics across all business functions. 
  • Demonstrated proficiency to communicate how these metrics and measures align and track against overall business strategies, goals and objectives is key  
  • The understanding data and information flow from line of business systems into the data warehouse and enhancing the overall analytic environment is critical.
  • Keen knowledge of data management disciplines and best practices to ensure appropriate data and information strategy is architected.  
  • Proven ability to communicate technical architecture direction, evangelize the opportunities and services of BI and develop the approach and methodology to move from the current state to the future state driven by business unit needs and employment of proven best practices.
  • Ability to build relationships with a broad set of leaders.
  • Ability to provide thought leadership and influence.
  • Demonstrated strong follow-through on work.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a matrix organization.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal relations skills required.
  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS, Cognos 8, MS Access and Business Objects application suite and other OLAP reporting tools as well as data warehouse management and design tools.
