Job Description


We are currently seeking a dynamic Clinical Manager to join our team at our office in Northern CA.  The Clinical Manager is responsible for overseeing and monitoring the day-to-day workflow of the CM team, and all other clinical functions on site.  The Clinical Manager will supervise a team of Care Manager, Care Coordinators and Service Coordinators.  S/He will provide support and assistance in the application of Beacon’s level of care criteria, support policies and procedures and being available to respond to and train staff on difficult calls.   The Clinical Manager, in conjunction Beacon Health Options clinical leadership and the AVP of Care Management will identify training needs for other staff members, assist the clinical department in reaching contractual goals, performance objectives and support the organizational goals of customer service, efficient utilization management, organizational competency and value added case management.

Position Location: Fairfield, San Francisco or Scotts Valley

Position Responsibilities:

  • Authorizes outpatient behavioral health treatment according to clinical information provided and criteria for medical necessity and appropriateness of care
  • Proposes alternative treatment when treatment requests do not meet medical necessity criteria
  • Analyzes specific utilization problems, and plans and implements solutions that directly influence quality of care and financial liability
  • Interacts with physicians and members of the provider clinical team for authorization decisions
  • Provides information to beneficiaries and providers regarding mental health and substance use disorder benefits and community treatment resources
  • Interacts with supervisory staff and County staff to discuss clinical authorization questions and concerns regarding specific treatment requests
  • Interacts with providers and facilities in a professional, respectful manner that facilitates the treatment process
  • Complies with the ASO’s standards for documentation of clinical information, clinical contacts, and care authorization

Position Requirements:

Education: Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, social work or related field.

Licensure:  Must have a current, valid, unrestricted state license in behavioral health or nursing. (RN, LCSW, MFT, LPCC, PhD or PsyD)

Relevant Work Experience:    Three to five years of combined behavioral health clinical and managed care experience

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of current behavioral health principles, procedures, and treatment protocols
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good written and verbal communication skills
