Beacon is currently seeking a Clinical Services Care Coordinator II to join our team at our Cypress, CA office.  Care Coordinators conduct preliminary pre-screening to assist members and provide referrals to in network providers.  Care Coordinators transfer clinical calls to clinicians, as defined by the department policies and procedures.  Care Coordinators are also responsible for completing specified assignments to assist the department in meeting contractual and/or performance goals. 

Shift: M- F 8:30am – 5:00pm (schedule may vary)

What does a typical day look like?

  1. Interacts with Member Service Representatives, Clinical Case Managers, and Service Coordinators to ensure members are receiving proper assistance.
  2. Utilizes Pre-Review Screening tool, make appropriate provider referrals and/or refer to licensed clinician for clinical evaluation.
  3. Provides timely and effective customer service in response to inbound member calls.
  4. Identifies complaints and assist patients to exercise grievance rights.
  5. Identifies calls requiring clinical evaluation or interpretation and refer to licensed clinician.
  6. Accesses Protected Health Information (PHI), Beacon/BCBHM and Health Plan Patient Files (ledger, authorizations, and administrative, claims, and clinical notes) and provider files as needed for Referral and Authorization.
  7. Responds to questions about eligibility, benefits and procedures for accessing behavioral health services.
  8. Responds to Pre-Review, screening members telephonically per guidelines.
  9. Checks voice mail and return calls within 1 business day.
  10. Requests SCA (Single Case Agreement) for non-contracted providers per established guidelines.
  11. Reads and understand written communication and updates via e-mail to stay informed of procedures and share with internal team members.
  12. Educates members about Beacon/BCBHM services and their mental health benefits.
  13. Follows health plan specific contract guidelines.
  14. Provides resources and referrals as appropriate.
  15. Responds to calls in a calm manner, and treat members with grace and empathy.
  16. Adheres to all Beacon policies and procedures and standards of operations.
  17. Completes all required and assigned trainings.
  18. Attend all mandatory company or department meetings.
  19. Report to each scheduled shift and commence work and perform essential job function at the start of each schedule shift. Completes full scheduled shift.
  20. Displays a positive, constructive, and helpful demeanor that is conducive to a safe and respectful work environment.
  21. Performs special projects and other duties as assigned and required.

What you Contribute?

Education: High School Diploma or GED required.  Bachelor’s degree in psychology or related field OR 2 years’ experience working in a hospital, physician’s office, or medical clinic.

Licensure: N/A

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Able to answer and resolve a high volume of member and provider calls effectively
  • Experience working in a high call volume inbound call center within the healthcare industry preferred
  • Experience working with the delivery of healthcare, Medicare and/or Medicaid services
  • Working knowledge and understanding of medical terminology
  • Bilingual skills (Spanish) a plus
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer skills required, including working knowledge of MS Office: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
