About the Position:

The AVP of Product Innovation will lead the strategic development, piloting and scaling of new digital / technology initiatives and tools in support of Beacon’s product portfolio.  This includes partnering with cross-functional stakeholders to define and build the member and provider digital experience in support of Beacon’s growth strategy, ensuring that Beacon has a strong digital presence enabling increased access to care and services and ensures that Beacon delivers a differentiated, positive customer experience in support of our mission and strategic priorities. 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Determines customers' needs by partnering with regions and Product Development Directors; specifies the research needed to obtain market information, partnering with Corporate Strategy.
  • ​ Recommends the nature and scope of present and future digital experience and support technology by reviewing product specifications and requirements; evaluating new product ideas and/or capabilities.  Engages IT organization as needed.    
  • Assesses market competition by comparing the company's capabilities to competitors'.
  • Assesses product market data by calling on customers with regional sales and evaluating sales call results.
  • Develops full business plan for new and existing capabilities, integrating requirements from Beacon products, customers, and different lines of business. 
  • Identifies opportunities to partner to fill capability gaps; engages and leads evaluation of partners.  Defines contract terms and supports negotiations. 
  • Provides corporate ownership of external technology partnerships until scalable solution reached; manages partners to ensure quality and timely execution.
  • Ensures technology solutions and partners meet Beacon’s standards and criteria around privacy and security. 
  • Once approved, brings new products to market with a phased approach and clear success measures.  Leads cross-functional matrix team responsible for launch. 
  • Develops scaled support model for new capabilities, including technical support and management of ongoing enhancements. 
  • Determines pricing strategy – if applicable – for new capabilities by leveraging market research data; reviewing operating expense and cost to launch, forecasting volume, and partnering with actuarial / pricing. 
  • Manages product roadmap and updates delivery schedule based on market feedback and resource availability.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

Position Requirements:

  • Education:  Undergraduate degree required; MBA or other relevant Master’s level degree strongly preferred.
  • Relevant Work Experience:  M inimum of 8-10 years of work experience, with a focus on technology product development or strategy in the healthcare industry.
  • Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:  Product Management, People Management, Understanding the Customer, Technology Design, Development and Delivery, Requirements Analysis, Pricing, Planning, Competitive Analysis, Sales Planning, Financial Planning and Strategy, and Facilitation Skills. The  candidate must be strategic and execution oriented.  Critical thinking is essential to this role. In addition, the candidate must be able to execute in a highly cross-functional and matrix environment, dealing with all levels and functions in the company.  He/she will also need to work externally to identify and select partners to help deliver on Beacon strategies and manage these partnerships once a contract is executed.
